SEO in Lebanon: How to Rank Higher on Google
A practical SEO guide for businesses in Lebanon: find the keywords your customers search, write for Arabic and English, win local results and track what works.
When someone in Lebanon needs a dentist, a wedding photographer or a web developer, the first thing they do is search. According to StatCounter, Google handles more than nine in ten of those searches. If your business does not appear on the first page, those customers go to a competitor who does.
SEO (search engine optimization) is the work of earning that spot. This guide explains it step by step for a business in Lebanon, with no jargon and nothing you need a large budget for.
1. Understand how people here search
Searches in Lebanon are mixed. The same customer may type in Arabic, in English or in Arabizi (Arabic written with Latin letters), and many searches name a neighbourhood instead of a city. Most happen on a phone.
That has three consequences for you:
- Keywords in both Arabic and English, because customers use both
- Place names that people actually use, such as Hamra, Achrafieh, Jounieh or Tripoli
- Pages that load fast on mobile data and are easy to use with a thumb
2. Find your keywords for free
A keyword is the phrase a customer types into Google. You can find yours without paid tools:
- Write down what you sell and where, as a customer would say it, for example "wedding photographer Beirut"
- Type each phrase into Google and note the suggestions that appear as you type, and the "People also ask" box
- Open Google Trends, set the country to Lebanon and compare two or three phrases to see which is searched more
- If your site is already live, open Google Search Console and read the "Performance" report: it lists the real searches that already show your site
- Look at the first page for each phrase and note what the winning pages cover that yours does not
Aim for a list of 10 to 20 phrases. Prefer specific ones such as "family dentist in Hazmieh" over a broad "dentist": fewer people search them, but those who do are ready to call.
3. Give every keyword its own page
Google ranks pages, not websites. One page that tries to cover everything ranks for nothing. Match each group of keywords to one page:
| What people type | What they want | The page to build |
|---|---|---|
| web design company Lebanon | A provider to hire | A service page with prices, examples and a quote button |
| how much does a website cost in Lebanon | An answer before they decide | A guide with real price ranges |
| restaurant near me | The closest option now | Your Google Business Profile and a contact page |
| تصميم موقع إلكتروني بيروت | The Arabic version of the first row | The same service page, in Arabic, on its own address |
If two pages target the same phrase, they compete with each other. Pick one page per phrase.
4. Write for Arabic and English searches
If your customers search in both languages, give each language its own full page, not a button that translates text on the fly. Each version needs its own address, its own title and description, and a link telling Google which page is the translation of which (this is called hreflang). Our guide to a bilingual Arabic and English website covers the setup.
Write the Arabic by hand. Machine-translated pages read badly, and customers notice within seconds. Use the words your customers use, not the most formal ones.
5. Win local results
For searches with a place in them, Google shows a map with three businesses above the normal results. Customers call straight from there, so it is often the most valuable spot on the page.
- Set up and verify your Google Business Profile: follow our step-by-step guide
- Keep your name, address and phone number identical on your website, profile and social pages
- Ask every happy customer for a review and reply to all of them
- Mention your area on your contact page and in your page titles where it is natural
6. Fix the basics of your website
Great content cannot rank on a site Google struggles to read. Check these first:
- Speed on mobile: slow pages lose visitors and rankings. See why your website is slow on mobile
- One clear title and description per page, written for a person, with the main keyword near the start
- One h1 heading per page, then h2 headings for sections
- HTTPS on every page, and no broken links
- Descriptive image names and alt text, in the page's own language
- A sitemap submitted in Google Search Console
7. Earn links from real places
Other websites linking to yours tell Google you are trustworthy. Skip bought links, which can get your site penalized. Instead:
- List your business in respected Lebanese directories and your industry association
- Ask suppliers, partners and clients to link to you from their sites
- Share your expertise with local media, blogs and podcasts
- Publish something worth linking to, such as a price guide or a how-to for your trade
8. Measure what matters
Install Google Search Console and Google Analytics. Each month, look at:
- Which searches bring people to your site, and whether your positions are rising
- Which pages get visits but no calls or messages, and need a clearer next step
- How many calls, WhatsApp chats and form submissions come from Google
Traffic is only useful when it turns into customers. Track the number of enquiries, not the visits alone.
How long does SEO take?
Most sites see movement within 3 to 6 months, and competitive phrases can take longer. New pages need time to be found and trusted. Be wary of anyone who promises first place in a week: no one controls Google's results.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Stuffing the same keyword into every sentence
- Copying text from other websites or from a competitor
- Putting all your services on a single page
- Ignoring mobile, or leaving the Arabic version half translated
- Changing every address on your site without redirecting the old ones
- Stopping after three weeks because nothing happened yet
The short version
Find the phrases your customers type in Arabic and English, give each one its own page, keep the site fast on mobile, claim your Google Business Profile, earn real links, and check your results every month.
